Show Me The (Natural) Light!

As the photographer, there is nothing more important than natural light! Even if it’s a cloudy day, natural light provides soft and even brightness. Overhead lighting, while romantic in real-life, casts harsh shadows on your face and appears orange in photos.

For stunning getting-ready imagery, reserve a space that has lots of windows.

If you’re getting ready in a hotel, ask for a corner unit (so that you get two walls of windows!), or for a south/east facing room so that when you’re getting ready in the morning, the space will be at its brightest.

Match The Mood.

I’m putting this in here, because I’m pretty sure it’s not something that would normally come to mind: the furniture and paint colours of the space you are getting ready in, will also be in your photos and wedding album. The ideal room is simple and clear of extra things - furniture, food, clothing.

Decluttering and choosing neutral colours helps to ensure that the space will complement the vibe of your wedding.

Room To Move!

Crowds add to the energy of your day, and your hype crew is SO important!

While you will be near everyone, you also want to consider having enough room for you to step away from the group for a few candid shots and quiet moments.

Location is key!

This isn't a make-or-break thing, but it’s good to remember that you will have to factor travel into your timeline. Search for hotels or airbnbs within a 20 minute distance of your ceremony. This will help with being able to take advantage of all opportunities for photo moments - first look, wedding party shots - or even just relaxing!

If you’re caught between a few options, send me a note and I can happily give you my advice!
